Notes:
* For all rounds: NO Chakgum in between gumbups. Only upon finishing the second.
* All Gumbups should start facing the front; towards the judges table.
* The competitor must move directly into the next move of the second gumbup.
  1. 'Junbi' command -> repeat with a loud 'Junbi!'
  2. 'Sijak' command -> start the gumbup with a loud 'Gihap!'
  3. 'Chakgum' is performed individually upon finishing both gumbups
Competitors will be judged based on the following points:
  • Speed:        correct stance and balance while moving swiftly
  • Power:        correct stance and sword line while making powerful cuts
  • Accuracy:   correct focus of the eyes, stance, and sword line

Preliminary: 2 cuts (Cut 1: Left; Cut 2: Right)

Preliminary: 2 cuts (Cut 1: Right; Cut 2: Left)
Final: 3 cuts (Cut 1: Right; Cut 2: Left; Cut 3: Right)
Stand in front of the paper cutting target with the cutting sword against your belt.
  1. 'Junbi' command -> repeat with a loud 'Junbi!'
  2. 'Baldo' command ->  draw sword (loud 'Gihab') into 'Jayeon Gyeonjeokse'
  3. 'Sijak' command -> step into 'Gimase' and make the first cut
  4. Stop for a short moment after the cut.
  5. Upon turning the swords directions, immediately make the next cut
  6. After the last cut, step back into 'Jayeon Gyeonjeokse' and sheath the sword
  7. No points will bhe given for the cut if:
    1. the paper is not completely cut
    2. the cut enters the dark grey area
    3. the cut is performed with one hand
  8. Disqualification: if the paper is hit away and falls off the cutting stand or if after the cut one side of the paper is not connected to the cutting stand

  • Paper Size (W 52cm X H 78cm) / The height of each scoring section is 2cm / Total of 35 x 2cm
  • The remaining space of the paper does not count for scoring
  • Paper Cutting Sword will be provided / Use of own sword is allowed / Federation Sword Mandatory

Stand in front of the bamboo with the sword in your belt, held in your left hand.

  1. 'Junbi' command -> repeat with a loud 'Junbi!'

  2. 'Baldo' command -> draw the sword (loud 'Gihab!') into 'Jayeon Gyeonjeokse'

  3. 'Sijak'  command -> start the cuts

  4. After the last cut, step back into 'Jayeon Gyeonjeokse' and sheath the sword

Main Round - 1st & 2nd Dan: 3 successful cuts in order to go to the next round
                          - 3rd Dan +: 3 successful cuts in order to go to the next round
Final Round - Drop-out system until 4 people with the highest score remain -> Winners

* Final Round: Each successful cut is worth 10 points. No points will be given for the cut if:

  • the bamboo is not completely cut or split into parts

  • there are remainders after the cut

  • the bamboo is launched out of its holder

In the event that the bamboo pole falls down, no points will be given for all the cuts that were to follow. Example: Cut 1 = good cut (10 points); Cut 2 = bamboo pole falls down (0 points); Cut 3 = (0 points)

Federation Jingum Mandatory

 

All Levels
All Ages
Mandatory Techniques (points will be deducted if not included in the performance)
  • Performance with the sword in reverse grip for more than 10 seconds
  • 3 continuous turning motions to both the left and right side
  • Characteristic parts from either Yedo Gumbup #2 or Ssangsu Gumbup #8 must be included
 
  • Anyone of any rank, gender, or age may participate
  • Maximum duration of music and performance 3 minutes
  • Music, costume, and choreography must be family friendly
  • Music recording to be provided to the ring referee by start of division
Divisions:
Will be determined by age upon registration
Judging Rules:
There are 3 Judges
  • Judge 1 Sword skill: sword handling, draw/sheath, functional cuts, use of scabbard, execution of required reverse grip. Deductions for throwing and dropping of sword.
  • Judge 2 Stance skill: recognizable HDGD stances, excellence in execution, variety of heights, execution of required spins.
  • Judge 3 Martial Art spirit: fight clearly communicated, inspires others to excellence, music/costume reflects martial art spirit, overall performance fits the character of the music/costume, execution of required gumbup.

 

Color Belts
Ssangsu Gumbup 2 & 3 performed continuously - Mokgum
Black Belts
Ssangsu Gumbup 5 & 7 performed continuously - Gagum

* Groups will consist of 4 individuals. Groups do not have to be same belt rank.
       Groups consisting of Color Belts AND Black Belts will compete in the Black Belt Division

* First Gumbup should start facing the front; towards the judges table.
* Competitors should be in a square formation
 
* The competitors must move directly into the next move of the second gumbup.

  3. 'Chakgum' is performed individually upon finishing both gumbups
 
Groups will be judged based on the following points:

  • Harmony:   All 4 individuals performing the Gumbup with together in synchrony
 
Black Belts: * Federation Gagum Mandatory

  • Anyone of any rank, gender, or age may participate
  • Maximum duration of music and performance 3 minutes
  • Music, costume, and choreography must be family friendly
  • Music recording to be provided to the ring referee by start of division

Will be determined by age upon registration
